DashCon Registration Reminders!

Starting to panic about DashCon? Take deep calming breaths, we’re here for you! We know that registration is always taxing, and for first time convention goers, it can be super intimidating! Because of this, we’ve made it as easy as possible for everyone to get through registration fast and easy! Whether you’ve pre purchased or are buying at the door, the advice is mostly the same!

What you need!

  • An ID! We accept all state or government issued photo IDs, including passports and public school IDs. If you don’t have one, please visit your local DMV and look into a State ID!
  • Invoice ID! This is not required, but it’s a good back up to have just in case!
  • Something entertaining! The line may be long, so make sure you have something to do while you wait, and if possible wait with friends!
  • Water!! I cannot stress how important it is to stay hydrated, especially when you’ll be on your feet so much!
  • Listening ears! I know this one is super lame, I know. But there will be people around trying to make sure you’re all in the right line and that the room doesn’t get too loud.
  • Money! If you’re purchasing badges at the door we will be accepting both cash and credit card, please remember to bring one of those along with you!
  • An adult? If you’re between 14 and 17 you’ll need someone 18 and up to check you into the convention, and anyone under the age of 14 needs to have a guardian with them at all times!

When and where!

  • Registration is in Discovery Hall starting Thursday night!
  • Thursday Hours: 3 PM - 10 PM CST
  • Friday Hours: 10 AM - 10 PM CST
  • Saturday Hours: 9 AM -  10 PM
  • Sunday Hours: 9 AM - 11 AM - We’ll be selling 2015 tickets this day as well!

The Last Little Bits

We’re so unbelievably excited to have you all at DashCon 2014, and we cannot wait for the convention to get started! Hopefully the above will help you all, as well as all the info in our FAQs! Please also make sure to check out our packing list, as well as our transportation master post! Please please make sure to check out all the information on the Woodfield Trolley! The area sound the hotel is not safe to walk and is largely under construction. The trolley can run you back and forth from various food stuffs if you’re not into the food at the hotel, plus it’s free! The trolley stop is just outside of the convention center, and it’ll be hot that weekend, so please please use it!

So basically, that is everything! We can’t wait to see you all, just 12 days left! See you soon!!

homicidaltyger sent: Since the whole area is under construction, what does that mean for people driving in? Are there closed lanes or road closures around the hotel or anything?

dashcon:

Good question! I’m doing this from memory, so please pardon any mistakes!

There are closed lanes leading into the hotel, but running into it will depend on what direction you’re coming from! If your directions take you along Meecham road, the bit that goes over the toll road has lane closures! Hopefully that helps! The delay there isn’t too bad, but it’s just enough to be annoying.

The other construction would be a lot of median work, and work on corners. on various roads throughout. It makes walking difficult, but doesn’t hinder driving too badly.

If you need to get off the hotel campus [it really does sit on a campus, it’s surrounded by gardens and walkways and so on], please remember the trolley, or take a cab! Cabs in town don’t cost terribly much, and for those staying at our overflow hotel, they have a free shuttle to and from the con!

DashCon would like to reach out to all of those affected by the recent attack on the Tumblr tags we all consider home. Regardless of circumstances, invading the safe spaces of others is cruel and unacceptable. For those who were upset, sickened, triggered, or otherwise injured by the attacks, you have our support. We’ve survived worse than this, and we’ll survive this as well. Just remember, we are Tumblr proud. We are Tumblr strong. Because we are Tumblrites, and we stick together.
With Love,
The Entire DashCon Staff

DashCon and Random Acts— The partnership of awesome!

DashCon is happy to announce we’ve partnered with Random Acts, a non-profit organization that is headed by Misha Collins and aims to conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time. Random Acts is dedicated to funding and inspiring acts of kindness around the world.

What’s this have to do with DashCon, though? Well, we’ll be raising money all weekend at our event in the form of a fandom face off, simply called Fandom War-Care! Similar to a house cup, each fandom will donate money to gain points for their fandom. Place any and all coins into your fandom’s pool to gain points— but BEWARE! Rival fandoms can place dollar bills into your pool to take away your points! It’s a race for fandom greatness, so gird your wallets and visit the competition in the room marked ‘Innovation’ on the hotel map.

Dashcon Convention Prep!

So I haven’t traveled a whole lot lately, but on the off-chance you guys don’t have a whole lot of experience, here’s some advice for now:

  • Make a packing list now. Yes, it’s a month away, but it’s one less thing to stress over later. Include clothes (and number of), toiletries, etc etc.
  • I would recommend that anybody driving to the con, take a pillow (maybe a blanket?) as I’m not 100% sure the hotel will leave us with enough. (I’m going to try to take mine on the plane c_c) I’m a blanket-hog and can’t sleep unless I’m a literal burrito so if you sleep next to me you better have a backup plan. XD
  • If you can, bring yourself snacks. Having snacks and not needing them is better than having no snacks and needing them. Drinks are probably a good idea as well.
  • If you’re flying, check your airport’s flight restrictions, and/or TSA whateverthefuck. Some items CANNOT be brought onto the plane, and some items can be brought but only if it’s checked baggage (aka where they shove it under the plane). There is a limit on the sizes of liquids. I know my airport at least requires liquids to be like 3oz and must be in a gallon ziplock bag. Or something to that effect.
  • If you have medications count them now. Make sure you’re not going to need a refill last second! Add them to your packing list, too.
  • If you’re flying in and have motion sickness, get yourself some Dramamine or Bonine or something like it. It’ll make you a bit tired but it will keep you from using a barf bag. I’ve experienced that. It’s awful. Don’t do it, just drug yourself and relax for the flight.
  • Also gum. It helps the air pressure from bothering your ears.
  • Bring ID. You may not be flying/driving but you should always be able to prove that you’re you.
  • If you have pets at home, who’s watching them? Do they have enough food, cat litter, medication, etc? Is the number of their vet within access of your pet-sitter?
  • If flying, get a name tag for your luggage with your information. Name, address, phone number, and email are all a good idea.
  • It would be wise to alert people staying with you if you have serious conditions or allergies. Are you diabetic? Seizures? Panic attacks? Penicillin will put you into a coma? (side-note: penicillin will put me into a coma. Please alert paramedics in the unlikely case of an emergency) Make others aware of what to do in-case of a personal emergency.

I’m sure I’ll think of more things but any other suggestions would be good!

  • Also if you have trouble sleeping in new places, remember to pack something that is close to you. It could be anything from a pillow, to your favorite stuffed bear, but it makes one more relaxed when trying to sleep in a new place having something from home with you!
  • Prepared for an emergency? We all don’t like to think about bad things happening but sometimes they unfortunately do. Be sure to have emergency contacts with you (and possibly programmed into your phone) so that way if for whatever reason if something were to happen (or even if you lost your phone) someone could potentially contact your loved ones.
  • We all love to make new friends and have new people to interact with, however you still have to be careful of stranger danger. Be sure to travel with friends, and please, please do not follow the strange person into a dark alleyway just because they have candy. The safety of our attendee’s is very, very important to us, so please know that if you ever have any issues our staff members and security are here to help you!

Thank you so much thatfilthyanimal for posting this for fellow attendees!
